hi

I have this funny feeling that this is a problem caused by a nearly depleted CMOS battery.

this cell-coin battery (model CR2032 most like) whic is located on the motherboard, is fairly cheap, and easily replaced.

after replacing it, one powers up, goes into BIOS, and sets date and time.
(One of the telltale signs it is going bad is that the computer cannot remember what hard disk is in there, and also that it loses time settings. But many people never notice BIOS time settings because time can be adjusted automatically when the machine goes online)

If it loses date and time when the power was off, you will soon have other problems, and your problem can be one of the symptoms.
