mouse only works in safe mode

Hello Everybody,
My mobo died and I replaced it. I have 2 problems, one i am not concerned with. The os does not pick up the mouse in the normal phase of operation. I went in safe mode and deleted it twice, the os reported it was loading the software for the mouse, but when I reboot, the os still does not see it. The mouse is a 2 button ps2 ibm, it works well in safe mode.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get the os to see the mouse. I will say this is not a clean startup as I used the hd that was working with the old board. The old setup was using 2 hd's, it now has one. What is strange my computer is still reporting seeing the removed hd, also has not assigned letters for the cd and dvd.

Once I can get the os to recognize the mouse, i will tackle these other problems.

I thank one and all for any help you can give me.

if you are using the harddrive from another motherboard, you may need to reinstall or do a repair install of the os in order for things to work properly. You will need your me cd.

The os is not seeing the cd/roms, I can't reload the wme. I want to delete the the second hd which is not in the system. I lettered the cd/roms but "my computer" is not showing them though shown in device manager. The mouse is also show in device manager, both areas clean of question marks. I am puzzled why the mouse works well in safe mode, yet not available in normal operation. I am also puzzled how it can show an hd that does not exist in the system.
