I apoligize, in advance, if there's another thread on this topic, but I couldn't locate one in this forum.

OK. I've got a HP box that I'm trying to fix for my girlfriend's parents. The main problem is that Windows freezes 10-15 seconds after startup. The computer is a HP Vetra VL with a Pentium III processor, 128 megs of RAM, 7.85 Gig hard drive(one partition), floppy drive, CD-ROM drive, and modem. Windows 98SE is the OS.

The computer is able to run in Safe mode just fine without any problems. It will freeze up after Normal startup and after Selective startup, even with all options deselected.

It has an out-of-date(2 years) Norton SystemWorks on it. So I used a Utility disc I just burned to get some more up-to-date help. I was able to get the files on the PC before it froze. I ran AVG and found/fixed 8 viruses. I also ran AdAware and SpyBot to clean out the garbage. I ran ScanDisk and Disk Deframent. The problem still existed. I installed HijackThis on the computer for diagnosis purposes. I checked the Registry Restore and found a backup file from April. The Restore worked fine, but the problem was still there. I then reverted back to the previous registry.

I'm trying everything in my power to avoid have to reinstall Windows. I'm running out of ideas. My specialty is Multimedia. Any guidance would be very much appreciated.

If you can get the Hijack This log from the computer, start a new thread in the Cyber Safety forum (http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=25) and paste the log in for there. Tell them everything you've tried so far.

The Cyber Safety experts are always busy but they will get to you so please be patient.

Thanx Miz. I've already run HiJack in safe mode. I just need to try to get one saved during normal startup before the freeze. Thanx for the redirect. Peace.
