I am trying to setup a SMC7004VWBR wireless router with the Paradyne 6211 Modem and not getting anything I am trying wired before I try the wireless .

I changed the wireless router address to 192.168.1.2 (the modem is 192.168.1.1) both mask 255.255.255.0 the computer is set to DHCP I get into the wireless router fine it also seems to have gotten settings from the modem but I cant connect.

I get onto the internet with the modem alone , My ISP uses PPPoA

Any help here

Does the device you have look like this...

Click Here (https://secure.dsl-warehouse.com/images/paradyne_6211-i1-200.jpg)

If so I believe what you have is in fact a modem/router. See this page HERE (http://www.dsl-warehouse.com/product_info.php?products_id=104) for details. A quote from that page "The 6211, 6212, and 6218 endpoints, when operating in router mode, support DHCP Server/Relay/Client, NAPT, as well as RIP, dynamic routing, port forwarding, static routing, and ping initiation. For secuirty firewall functions including PAP (Password Access Protocol) and CHAP (Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol) are supported." What that means is that what you are trying to do now is connect two routers together. While this can be done it isn't the most stable and reliable way to setup a network. If you want to connect more than one computer at a time all you needed to do was buy a small switch, my advice would be to see if you can take the router you bought back and either get your money back or see if you can trade it for a switch.

Sort of but the wireless router wouldn't be doing dhcp for the network if you set it up that way. The short and skinny of what you would want to do is...

Setup router 1 "wired router" to do dhcp it sounds like it already is. Now before you plug router 2 into router 1 connect to it with cat5 and a computer to do the config. Log into router 2 turn off dhcp. then give it a static ip address within the range of router 1. For example if router 1 has an ip of 192.168.1.1 then router 2 would be 192.168.1.2 the subnet mask would be 255.255.255.0 the gateway would be 192.168.1.1 and the dns could be the same as the gateway but I would use whatever dns addresses that are listed in router 1 just for more solid dns. Once the config is done on router 2 you can connect it to router1. Just make sure and plug the cat5 from one of the switch ports on router1 to one of the switch ports on router2 not the WAN port. Most routers have one or two uplink ports for connecting other devices so use those if you know what ports are uplink ports "normally port 1 or 4 sometimes both". Once the routers are connected you should then be able to connect to the wireless router using a wireless computer.

Thank you that's just what I wanted , I will try it out later .

On Router 2 I wont have to set up the WAN side , I can leave that blank ?

I changed the SMC7004VWBR IP to 192.168.1.15 directly on one PC I turned off DHCP amd left the WAN settings blank , when I plug the Router and the PC into my Switch the 2 Computers can see eachother but only the computer that I used to set up the SMC Router can see both the SMC and the Paradyne Modem/Router .

They both get onto the net with no problems.

Computer (2) can open both Router Admin Pages
Computer (1) can see and open only the Paradyne 6211

Paradyne 192.168.1.1 mask 255.255.255.0
SMC 192.168.1.15 mask 255.255.255.0
Computer (1) 192.168.1.2 mask 255.255.255.0
Computer (2) 192.168.1.3 mask 255.255.255.0
