Do you think it would be a good idea to have some sort of post marker for problems solved..
i have noticed when searching that i come across posts that have been started and maybe forgot about or the poster has solved their own problem and done a quick exit without letting us know..
Viable or not:D

I always thought that it would be a nice addition, but it would probably be hard to implement.

I think that would be a good idea for google to implement.. not particular forums. How many times have you searched google for an answer to something and you come up against a brick wall? A lot of the entries in there don't have an answer. Although it would be good for forums too.:hmm:

Good point, that can be annoying digging through 50 links and only 1 or 2 are solved.

Remember that these are not self written forum scripts.
The script is vBulletin which is a very popular script. There are many mods/hacks/extensions. The problem is that the more you add the more it takes to upkeep.
Modding means to edit the scripts. If an update comes out then that may replace serveral of the scripts which means that if you have modded them you have to remod the updated scripts.
If this sounds complicated reading it then just think how it would be to keep modded forums updated.

I've visited several forums that have the "Solved" option for the original poster to click. Apparently, it's a lot like stickies...hardly anybody uses it. Of the dozens of posts on one page that have been resolved, usually only one or two posters have remembered to, or bothered to, click the "Solved" button.

Looks a nice suggestion, it could be a yellow triangle left of post no....which could be highlighted to show problem solved and an additional note for it could be added in all threads.

This has come up a couple times before. The main problems are suggested as being:
1) Creates more work
2) OPs often don't return to acknowledge/answer a response, let alone confirm a problem is solved
3) Threads are left open to advice even after solving, because of the possibility of better/alternative advice, providing/asking for clarification or extra info, additional discussion of the topic, etc.
