View Full Version : Windows 2000 to XP?????

I just bought a laptop off ebay and it is coming with Win 2000 and all my other compters are now on XP. Can I inmstall XP over 2000 and not lose anything??? Do I have to uninstall 2000 first?

it's not possible to install xp over 2000, i think that the best way is to backup all needed staff (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/), then format hd and make a clean install of windows.

That's not completely true.
If you have XP Pro then you can do an upgrade.

You would probably be best off saving your data then formatting the drive and installing XP from scratch.

I do have both Win XP Home and Win XP Pro. Since I'm buying this for the first time, I don't know what will be coming on it other than Win 2000. It may have some CD burning software etc... that I don't want to lose. I will not have any data on it yet. If there is some programs on it that I may need, how \do I use the Win XP Pro to upgrade.
