I cannot install updates for realtek`97 audio .I get error code 0x80070005.
My sound keeps failing and the only way I can retrieve it is by doing a rollback.I have Windows xp home edition.

Prior to this problem showing up, did you add or remove any hardware or software?
Have you tried re-installing the the original device drivers, then doing the upgrade?
Have you checked to make sure the upgrade is for your motherboard and not some other board?

The device drivers for your 'on-board' sound come with the system in the form of 'chipset' drivers.
This is independent of the drivers supplied by windows.
It is possible for these 'drivers' to get corrupted or modified.
You are welcome.
