To get custom smileys, you need to own/have access to web space where you can upload your smileys of choice, then put them in your posts with the [img] vB code.

That's ridiculous. :) Of course you don't http://kebawe.com/smellies/smellie_lol.gif
As an example, go to http://kebawe.com/smellies/ . Very clear instructions on how to post smilies (in this case, "smellies").

There are a lot of free smileys for forum use, try searching..you will find too many you will be confused as to which to choose.
But stay away from SmileyCentral.

There is a function, to copy smileys in that note pad, somewhere it's explaining how to do it, even though i don't use them.
And i believe you can do it without having any illegal problems, if copying smileys from a free smileys site.

Here's what I did, but it was a bit intermittent and didn't always work.
Tools/Smiley Ripper/type in the web site at the top - wait till it lists all the stuff in the lower half and click on the ones you want to keep [see them in the little preview window]. You can make separate folders.
It doesn't seem to work too well for me - maybe you'll have more luck.
Here's one I pinched earlier from this site.

Just to prove it does work - sometimes.
I just noticed they have Tutorial Videos listed in the Help menu.
