So, I've read and searched and poked and prodded and I can't figure out what's going on. However, I am a little bit on the handicapped side when it comes to computers, so I might as well have been trying to perform brain surgery with a screwdriver.
My computer worked fine accessing the wireless internet network at work until I had the hard drive replaced and the entire system "freshened up a bit."
I am now using Windows XP Professional (W/Service Pack 2). The hard drive was cleared of a lot of the extra stuff I had that I didn't need, so my drivers and the like for my Motorola wireless card were removed and I'm just using the Windows fare.
Anyway, wireless is run through the only other computer we have in the station and it's settings are password protected by the network admin, so I can't really go tinkering around with the settings of the network.
Others that brought in brand new laptops seemed to have no problems connecting to the network and my old setup (Windows 98, same wireless card, extra Motorola drivers, etc.) worked just fine.
And I'm sure they haven't changed anything with the network setting while I was getting my computer fixed, so, the problem has to lie with my new OS or settings.
The network signal is not a broadcast one, so I have to enter the SSID in manually, which I did. In the properties menu, I just entered the SSID, left the authentication as "open," and the data encryption as WEP. This was what I remember the settings being previously. I didn't have to enter a network key, nor did anyone else that's using a new computer. (One guy has an older laptop and has the same problems connecting to the wireless as I do, however, he has no trouble with a hardline cable connection).
This leads me to think that it's something with XP's settings but, again, I'm an idiot.
The little connection computer at the bottom does blink when Windows is coming up for a millisecond, then it shows up the big red X.
I've tried messing with all kinds of stuff. I can't find/gain access to the network key, I don't have any other laptops here to look off of, and I can't access all of the settings/buttons with the main computer due to the admin passwords.
But, I really don't think it has anything to do with the main computer because mine worked fine with my old stuff for months.
Sorry if this is a repeated post. I truly appreciate all of your help, input, and time. Thank you.
