Wireless router and ADSL incompatable!

hello, a friend of mine recently bought a wireless router (the blue and black one by linksys) and he has an DSL modem that to access broadband he has to "dial up". However the modem he has is a USB one, and it only has one input which is from the telephone socket to recieve his broadband.
The router he has bought also only has one input which is ment to come from the telephone socket (i think)
we have bought one of those "splitters" which splits the phone line for telephone calls, and broadband access, however it still doesnt work!
What can we do to get him internet access?
thanks in advance
Goldie

He needs to either get a new modem or combination modem/router. The port on the router is an ethernet port (unless your friend really got a modem/router combined. What model router does he have?

Also if he already has the linksys modem/router make sure there is a microfilter on all used telephone sockets. Also make sure the user name and password which he uses, is put into the router. Then he will need to change his internet settings so it no longer tries to "dial up" to the internet.
