IP change every ½hour

Hello again,

For some reason my IP keeps changing every half hour to hour and a half, right now its happening about once every 10 - 20 minutes. I am using a dlink 504t adsl router. This has only recently started happening and I don't know why. It is very frustrating getting disconnected from what i was working every little bit.

If anyone has any remote ideas, feel free to share 'em

Ty vm

Is in the external (WAN) ip address or your network IP address (LAN, usualy 192.168.x.x)? If its your LAN IP address just change your lease time to a longer period (say 1 week) or assign a static IP address to your pc.

How can I change my lease time?

When i do Ipconfig/all it always says my lease time is exaclty one hour. I've found this to be a bit inconsistent.

Actually right now it says the lease expire and issue time are exactly the samew

Says the lease was obtained at 9:52.. and its only 9:21 (oops, says 1st of sept and the 8th, didn't read that) but its still disconnecting.

anyway how do I increase my lease time?

EDIT: Oh its a LAN 192.168.x.x

A static IP address will work because it will never change from that IP address. Your problem may actually be with the connection (Loss of connection, thats why its attempting to get a new IP address). Are you connected wirelessly? You might want to try pinging the router and monitor it when it losses/gets a new IP address. To do this go to start, then run. Type cmd and press ok. Then type:

ping 192.168.1.1 -t (or whatever your router ip address is)
Then keep and eye on it. You can stop it by pressing ctrl + c. Then post the activity just before it disconnects or changes ip.

I'm not connected wireless. and when I disconnected, the pings just kept going normally. (I was playing starcraft, and it said you have lost connection, on another game at the same time called Ogame, it told me i cannot continue viewing the page because my ip has changed or something else) I checked whatismyip.com and it has changed.. but the pings never stopped, they were just normal.

Ah ok, we are getting somewhere. You are talking about your external WAN IP address and not your network IP address. Unfortunately there isn't much you can do about it. ISP's will charge for a static IP address. Another choice would be to try a cable broadband company as they are generally quite good a leaving you with the same IP for quite a while. Have you got DSL broadband?

But this wasn't happeneing a few days ago.. I never even knew IPs had this changing thing. Now I'm lucky if I can get 20 minutes into a starcraft game without disconnecting, it's always like this now. I'm on ADSL, where you connect via telephone line.

Speak to your ISP about it and complain. There may be a fee though for a static IP.
