you have to have a MAC address, it isn't possible to not.

go to start -> run -> "cmd /k ipconfig /all" -> enter
and post the results.

But I will still like to fix this and get back the real MAC address for my NIC so I still need help.

Thank You

Hi I still need help with this I will really like to get back my real MAC address.

I have only seen one adapter do that with its MAC address and it was an onboard SIS900. The fix there was to install the latest driver for the adapter after that it had a good MAC and worked just fine. My advice is go to NVIDIA's website and look for the newest drivers they offer for that adapter and the OS you run. Install the new drivers and see if it helps.

Thank you I will try that.

The NVIDIA nForce MCP Networking Adapter does have the ability to clone MAC addresses... but I've never seen it all out drop the address before. If updating the drivers doesn't work, go into device manager and open the properties for the nvidia network adaptor and go to the adavanced settings tab. Make sure MAC address cloning is disabled and that the cloned address is clear.

MAC address cloning is not enabled and I am not finding newer Drivers so I still have the problem.

I've done a little research on you problem and short of cloning a MAC address you know to not be active on your network there is no easy way to fix this. Its a chipset problem in the nForce 2 and 3 chipset (from what I found, NVidia has not acknowledged this as a problem yet). The only thing that has helped other users with this problem is a complete reset of the chipset.

First, find your motherboards support site and download the newest supported BIOS (even if it is your current version). Flash the BIOS with it (the website should give you instructions), again do this even if it is your current version. Go ahead and boot the computer up again and make sure the flash was successful.

Second, remove the power cord from the computer.

Third, open the case and remove the backup battery from your motherboard. You don't have to be too delicate doing this, motherboards are fairly durable, but don't use that as a license to be careless.

Leave the power and batter out for a minimum of 15 minutes. Most motherboards today have capacitors that are able to maitain configuration settings for up to 15 minutes.

Lastly, replace the battery and plug in the power cord and reboot your computer. The chipset should be reset to its factory defaults.

Well after my first attempt to flash my BIOS (that's why I had to get this board) it did not go very well .

but if it's the only way I will try it but I will wait till the end of this week to see if there is another way.

Thank You

I believe that AA is right about this issue. The SIS900 and the NVIDIA both seem to have similar issues but if a new driver doesn't help the only thing you can do is reset the chipset back to factory defaults. I think it may be easier in your sit to just install a PCI ethernet adapter. Disable the onboard adapter and just use a NIC that would solve the problem and also keep you from having to use the onboard adapter. "I have never been a big fan of onboard anything".
