wireless not working on new laptop
i recently bought an Advent 7099 laptop and despite it saying it has a "Intel PRO/Wireless 1945abg" there is no information about it in the user manual
when i try to connect to the wireless network in the house it keeps telling me to use the hardwire switch to enable the connection. due to the manual i have no idea what its talking about. im sure this is pretty simple but i really have no idea what to do as i cant find any hardware switch on the laptop any advise would be appreciated |

There will be a little button or switch on the laptop with a little wireless symbol next to it.
Edit: Just found out its to the right of the power button. |

Is the routers wireless on and is the SSID being broadcasted? Log into into the router (either with a connected pc or with your laptops LAN adapter) and check it. What router do you have anyway?

Try changing the channel to 1 or 13 and then search for the network again with your laptop.

try this one out...
1. check if ssid is broadcast 2. check what channel your on, channels that does not overlap are 1, 6, and 11. or try to play around with the settings 3. make sure your card driver is ok 4. if you are running a 3rd party client manager, try to disable it, and allow windows to manage the connection 5. if step 4 is not possible, check the configuration settings on the client manager, try scanning for available networks 6. all wireless are running on 2.4 gz frequency, check if you are using any 2.4 wireless/cordless phones, or any devices that maybe running on 2.4. they cause alot of RFI (radio frequency interruptions). i suggest you turn them off just for the heck of troubleshooting. 7. check the UI on your router, make sure that there is packets being sent out on wireless settings 8. if your router is on b/g, try switching it to "g" network, and make sure your card is supporting this 9. try to simplify your wireless network, remove security (WEP or WPA) on your router 10. uncheck network components IEEE, AEGIS PROTOCOL, WLAN TRANSPORT, QOS PACKET SCHEDULER. 11. if all failed, take your laptop to starbucs, have some coffee, and try connecting to their wifi. if you cant connect, theres a problem with your card, have it fixed, or take it to your OEM. if you can connect though, theres a problem with your access point! call tech support, and process RMA. tell em, you've gone through all this, they will be impressed! lolz... hope this'll help! cramer
