I am using my pc mainly for music production, all software based. this requires much cpu and memory. i have a few a few questions about getting my computer to run glitch free.

first i will tell you what system i am using:

AMD 2800+ Sempron
512MB DDR333 PC2700
120GB 2MB Cache Maxtor ATA133
Emu 0404 soundcard

at the moment i have 80% full harddrive, someone told me recently its better to have more room free on my harddisc for it to opperate faster, i have no idea if this is true.

when i play my music sequencer with multipul tracks i get a few pops, like it cant handle all that data, it just does not cope well with the work load.

i want to know what can i do, i will get more memory, but what else? would it be a good idea to get another harddrive and use that only for audio?

any input here is much obliged

First, get & install a second hard drive. Go with an 8Mb cache, or 16 if you can find it.

Get an extra 512 stick of memory. Yes, it really is a good investment for what you want to do.

Depending on what your motherboard supports, you might see an improvement with an Athlon chip rather than the Sempron.
