Hi, I am trying to move about three hundred messages from my outlook express sent box to a flash drive but when I try to export them I get a message that says the export could not be performed. An error occurred while initializing MAPI.
I would like to get those messages out of my sent box and into an exterior drive, but I don't know how. Can you help? -Tony

are you exporting them directly to the flash drive? if so, first export them to a folder on the harddrive then copy the export file over.

at this point I would be happy to get them to a folder on my hard drive. I only get the messages that this will export them from outlook express to Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft Exchange. When I OK that, I get a message that says an error occurred while initializing MAPI.
What do I have to do to get them to a folder on my hard drive?-Tony

I am clicking on FILE, scrolling down to EXPORT, across to MESSAGES, to get the first message about exporting only to Microsoft Outlook and Exchange

You'll need to copy OE's .dbx files to the flash drive.
In OE, go to Tools>Options>Maintenance tab and click on the Store Folder button. That will give you the path to the folder where OE keeps its messages.
Either copy that entire folder to the flash drive or just the files for the OE folders you want to keep..."inbox.dbx," "sent items.dbx," etc.
To get them back into OE, use OE's File>Import.

Hi, Sorry for the delay. I had to work. As soon as I got a minute (or 20) I tried your recommendation for finding the path and everything worked.
Thank you so much! It cleared so much from my hard drive I can hardly believe the increase in performance. Thank you again. I really appreciate it.-Tony
