Hello, I have a home network consisting of 5 pc's, 4 running Windows XP & 1 running Windows 98SE. If I look in the shared files folder on each machine, we can not access the shares on two xp pc's. When I try to access them through windows explorer I receive this message "\\Machine A\SharedDocs is not accessable. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions." The same happens on machine M. Machine A (XP) can access the shares on the other three(2 XP, 1 98SE), but not machine M (XP). Machine M (XP) can access the shares on the other three(2 XP, 1 98SE), but not machine A (XP). The other 3 machines can not access machine A or M, but can access each other. I have checked the network settings on the 4 XP machines, they are identical. I have not checked anything on the 98SE machine since this seems to be an XP issue. In the network settings for each machine (XP) Client for Microsoft Networks (Windows Locator), File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks, QoS Packet Scheduler & Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) (DHCP Enabled) are listed. The Guest Account is off on all 4. I can ping all machines from all machines. All machines in the same workgroup (MSHOME). I have disabled my anti virus and firewall software (CA E-Trust), with no change. Windows Firewall is not active. I checked the registry entry for "Do not alloy anonymous enumeration of sam accounts" they are all set to Disabled. I do not want to enable IPX/SPX or NETBeui because of the security issues. I am not sure where else to check. Thanks for any help.

If you run 'net view \\machine_M' does it show its shares?
On Machine M, run 'telnet localhost 445'. Does it connect? Use Ctrl-] then 'q' to disconnect.
On Machine A, run 'telnet machine_M 445'. Does it connect?
BTW - We using telnet to see if the a connection can be made or if something is blocking connections.

Hi Z1P, and thanks for responding. OK, when I run 'net view \\Machine M' on Machine M, it shows my 2 printers and the ShareDocs folder. The column 'Used As' is blank. When I run 'net view \\Machine A' on Machine M, it shows the 1 printer and the ShareDocs folder. The column 'Used As' for the ShareDocs folder says (UNC). When I run 'net view \\Machine A' on Machine A, it shows 1 printer and the ShareDocs folder. The column 'Used As' is blank. When I run 'net view \\Machine M' on Machine A, it shows the 2 printers and the ShareDocs folder. The column 'Used As' is blank. When I run 'telnet localhost 445' on Machine M, it connects (I get a blank window, then Ctrl-] brings me back to telnet). The same for running 'telnet machine_M 445' on Machine A. It connects.

Hmmm... Are you running XP home or Pro?
When you try to mount a share folder what do you get for an error?

I am runnung XP Pro SP2. When I try to mount, I receive the "\\Machine A\SharedDocs is not accessable. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Access is denied." Same from Machine A.

Those are processes, not services. To see services, goto
start -> run -> "services.msc" -> enter and look for the ones that say "started"
As for svchost... kill them and see what happens :rotflmao:Thats a joke. Yes you need them, they are the hosting processes for a lot of the system services that run in the background.

Disable simple file sharing (open an explore windon, tools, folder option, under the view tab scroll to the bottom and uncheck use simple file sharing).
Open my computer. Right click on the shared documents folder and click properties. Go to the security tab, make sure "Everyone" has read and write access. Go to the share tab, make srue "Everyone" has read and write access.

Hi Archangel, thak worked! Thank you for your help! Now I have a related question - I checked all the machines, I can open or copy a document or picture. If I try to copy an .exe file, I get the message not accessable. Is there a setting to allow file transfer? Thanks!
