I am a new member, just logged on. I am computer illeterate. I know a little, just enough to get me into trouble.

I am retiring in 3 months and need to transfer all my desktop files to my New/used Laptop.

I have a Dell Desktop and a Dell Laptop. the desk top is as follows
Dell Optiplex GX 280 - Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.40 GHz, 3.39 GHz, 504 MB RAM
Physical Address Ext.

My Laptop is a Dell Inspiron 5100 Pent. 4 CPU 2.66 GHz, 2.86 Ghz, 768 MB RAM, Running Window XP Home Edition Ver. 2002, Svc. Pak. 2

I used to do file transfers years ago using a cable and a program that allowed file transfers between local and target computers.

Please tell me what type of cable, where I can get one, and what programs I need. Please be gentle with me as this is my first time with the group. heh, heh.

If you get a crossover cat5 cable, you should be able to use windows filesharing without a problem.
