my computer won't format!!!

I have a Dell Latitude and it runs on Win 2000. Recently it kept freezing everytime I tried logging in so I decided to reformat the OS. However, after multiple attempts at reinstalling the OS, it keeps freezing at 67%. What could be the problem?

Are you installing off a cd? It could be the CD is dirty or scratched. Is the hard drive in good working order? Sometimes its wise to do a chkdsk before you install just to be sure the hard drive has no errors on disk.

Are you booting to disk when you are attempting the reinstall? Did you wipe the drive with any 3rd party app (ex: dariks)?

Have you used this disk lately on any other machines?

Just adding a couple more tips:

1) Don't just format. Delete the partition(s) and create a new one.

2) Use the NTFS full format. Unlike the quick format, the full format will also perform error checking and correction on the hard drive.
