Scanner driver help

My scanner is a Mustek 1200 UB, which apparently is incompatible with my OS, Windows XP. I've tried running the compatibility wizard with no effect. I've looked for updated drivers to help me out, but either the instructions that come with them are not clear or do not describe actions that need to be done properly (at least for me). Though they do specifically say this will make the scanner work with Win XP.
Would anyone be kind enough to guide me through the process and what I may be doing wrong?
I have the installation CD but it terminates itself saying "This installer is only for Windows 98, Windows 95 OSR2 and Windows 2000." This is after I've attempted to install a driver from driverguide.com.
I really need a scanner at the moment for assignments so any help offered is greatly appreciated, thank you.

Odd, I went to a site that looked exactly like this but with different instructions. I double checked to make sure it was the correct model. Anyway the download links don't work from here but from what I downloaded before and the far better instructions in that link I've got it to work. So thank you very much
