I have recently downloaded/installed the new MSN Messenger Live 8.0. When I turn on my computer the old messenger starts up, I have to close this then click on the new Live messenger icon to make it work. Is there anyway I can delete the old version ? It is not in the add/remove so seems strange why I have to do this way. Thanks for taking tme to read this and hope someone can help.

Try uninstalling msn8 and then check if you have older version of msn installed. Was your old messenger msn?

Sounds like its windows messenger, because when you install the new Windows Live Messenger 8.0 it copys over msn 7.5 or any previous version of MSN your using. If it was Windows messenger, you can go to tools > options > general and untick the boxes so i doesnt come up on start-up, Or alternitavly you can go to add remove programs and on the side panel click add/remove windows components and scroll down to windows messenger and untick it (dont tick or untick anything else) then click next and it will uninstall windows messenger from your system.

Well, that was my thinking, looks like new messenger installed over old one.

It is MSN Messenger 7.0 that starts up on start up ... I got rid of Windows Messenger ages ago. I agree the new MSN Messenger Live should install over but somehow it has not. Its not on the add/remove either so I am puzzled how to get rid on it. Thanks for your helpful replies, any other suggestions would be appreciated.

So can you find msn 7 somewhere in your programs?
Obviously you didn't delete it before installing the new version.
Try uninstalling no.8, check if you can find no.7 and delete it, and then install no.8.
Before installing a new version of messenger always delete the older one.
