I installed a video card on my computer some time ago, and ever since then there have been several programs that I cannot run on my computer. Some, such as Age of Empires II, simply do not display whereas others display an error message.

Most recently I was trying to run a GRE test prep program and I received this error:

Title bar: 16 bit Windows Subsystem

Contents: C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application

Options: Close, Ignore

The video card I installed is: NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420

Previously I was just using a the chipset, so I find it hard to believe that the video card is incapable of performing the required functions. What could be wrong?

Did you disable onboard graphics in the BIOS when you installed your new video card? Have you tried updating the driver?

Well...it seems as though the driver is updated. So, assuming I did that correctly...

I didn't go into BIOS at all. Is that something I should have done or something I should have avoided? How would I go about doing this?

Well i was thinking maybe your onboard and agp graphics were conflicting. You can check in BIOS when your pc first turns on press 'del' or the F1 key to get into setup and look for an option to disable onboard sound.

Okay, I finally got into BIOS, but I couldn't find an option like the one you described...hmmm...

I figured that's what you meant...I still couldn't find it though.

Look in Device Manager for your vid card(s) for some clues.
