When I am on-line through my ISP (AOL) and try to download Shockwave I keep getting a message that my connection has been interrupted. What can I do to fix this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Do you have a doulble line? If you do have you disabled call waiting? Also try another access number. Is it always at the same point in the download? If it is try installing Mozilla or another similar program so that if you lose your connection you will start the download from the same spot you were last at.

No, I don't have a double line, but I notice that even when I try to do a live update to my anti-virus program, I get a message that I must be connected to the internet and I already am, so I wonder if the 2 have something in common.

Yes, I can surf the internet with no problem. Last night I was finally able to download Shockwave but I got a message that I had 2 browsers running. How would I check to see if I have 2 running at the same time. I wonder if this could be the problem. I am still not able to stay at my game site, after about 2 minutes my computer still freezes up. Help is appreciated! :)

Hi julie - We will have a look at your startups for you and perhaps we will be able to see what the problem is. Go here (http://www.spywareinfo.com/files/startuplist.zip) and download and run Startup List. It will generate a log file. Copy the log and paste it back into this thread.

Hi Julie - You have a couple of items in your Startups that seem to be duplicated. If you dont use both or one of them, it would be a good idea to remove these link/s.
Microsoft Works Calendar Reminders.lnk = C:\Program Files\MSWorks\Calendar\WKCALREM.EXE
Event Reminder.lnk = C:\PMG4\PMREMIND.EXE
Rightclick on your Taskbar and select Properties. Click on Start Menu Programs and then click on Advanced. Doubleclick on Programs and scroll down to Startup. Rightclick on the link and delete it.
I wouldnt mind betting that this entry is the culprit. I have seen a lot of problems caused by Real Player lately. This is a download manager and its available via Start > Programs
RealTray = C:\Program Files\Real\RealPlayer\RealPlay.exe SYSTEMBOOTHIDEPLAYER
Go to Start > Run and type
msconfig
Uncheck the RealTray entry and reboot. Let us know if this helps.

I did all of the procedures but unfortunately this did not work either. This problem started when I uninstalled Print Shop Photo Pro program, it uninstalled windows 98 and I had to use my HP Recovery CD. Since that time I have not been able to stay at my gaming website, like I said, I can only play for about 2 mnutes and my system freezes. So I would appreciate any other ideas anyone can come up with. Thanks for all your help up to this point, I really appreciate everything you have done!

Hi Julie - you have quite a lot of software running at startup. Any one of those programs could be causing your problem. This is a bit tedious, but why dont you try disabling programs from your startup, one at a time, and see if one is causing the freeze.
To do this, go to Start > Run and type
msconfig
then OK. Click on the Startup tab and uncheck one program and then reboot. Try your game site and if you still have the problem, recheck that program, uncheck another and reboot etc. I would start with Internet Answering Machine.
You can uncheck all of the following (one at a time) :)
Microsoft Works Calendar Reminders.lnk = C:\Program Files\MSWorks\Calendar\WKCALREM.EXE
Iomega Startup Options.lnk = C:\Tools_95\IMGSTART.EXE
Iomega Watch.lnk = C:\Tools_95\IOWATCH.EXE
NkVwMon.exe.lnk = C:\Program Files\Nikon\NkView4\NkVwMon.exe
Event Reminder.lnk = C:\PMG4\PMREMIND.EXE
America Online 8.0 Tray Icon.lnk = C:\Program Files\America Online 8.0\aoltray.exe
Internet Answering Machine.lnk = C:\Program Files\CallWave\IAM.EXE
AOL Companion.lnk = C:\Program Files\AOL Companion\companion.exe
There are a few more that you can uncheck but lets see how you get on with that lot first.
