Bearshare

hello all

i was just wondering if the application bearshare is legal, and does it have a possibility of slowing your computer down?

Bearshare is a peer-to-peer file sharing program. The progam is legal, in and of itself. What you do with it can be interpreted as illegal, depending on where you live. It can facilitate the sharing and distribution of copyrighted material.

It will certainly slow down your computer to some degree, and will definitely use some of your internet connection's capacity.

You will almost certainly get viruses and spyware using it, which will also slow down your computer.

Did you know that 90% of all laptop repairs can be avoided by regular cleaning? Just take a can of compressed air and clean the ventilation areas, fans, etc. Your computer will run cooler with fewer problems.

MOST CERTAINLY you will get spyware which if you remove, Bearshare won't open the next time you want to use it!
And Oh YES there are viruses galore!
That being said, I've used it for a couple of years. I have much better luck with the searches there than say Limewire...don't touch Morpheus any more.

Get Spyware and Adware?

Well the new version of bearshare version 6 comes clean with not spyware or adware. I been using it so far and no problems. Regarding the virus issue in that case not p2p is safe. You need to have a good virus protection program

It will be less risky than running without an antivirus. Safe? No, that's a pretty absolute word. Even with the best antivirus problem, I predict you will have bearshare related computer problems within 6 months. I would get good at backing up your stuff before going down this road.

Roadrunner is right about the backup. However I have run it several years with no problem. I use Avast(free!) rather than Norton(stinks) & have had good luck.

P2P is fine as long as you're disciplined and careful enough.
