Exclamation Problem need help

I have a question, I'm installed Windows 2000 Professional and I cant get on line, when I connect my internet cable to my laptop, it still says its not detecting the connection. Also how would I change my resolution I know I need to install some drivers or something so it can function properly. So I can change the better resolution this way everything is big and clumsy. Anyhow what would I have to do in order to create or get the internet connection going.

Is this scenario at work if so than you must be sure that the DHCP is running or contact your admin.

If at home you most definitely require a dhcp if you want to get the net. Other wise set it up manually. You must have a network card. The status should be as cable plugged out if not then it must be disable so just enable it.

Right click go to properties select tcp ip from general tab and hit properties. Here type in the address anything like 192.168.0.1. subnet 255.255.255.0, gateway now this should be your routers address. Dns servers must be given to you by them dsl guys.

Not sure whether dsl modems automatically lease ip address to pcs when connected-

Right-click on your Desktop
left-click Properties (this is the same as Control Panel/Display)
the tab things at the top...Settings
bottom left, move slider to 1024x768 and click OK and Yes.
