I have had Xandros Desktop - Home Edition for about 3 months now. I am soon going to upgrade from the OCE to the Retail version.

I don't know about Xandros, but most Linux distros have a package management system which can be used to install software. E.g. Ubuntu has apt, Fedora/Red Hat has 'yum', and SuSE has YaST and you can install Smart and apt. |

Are you downloading them from xandros or a third party. If you download them from xandros using their management system, it should install automatically. If from a third party, then there could be problems. What are you trying to install? Have you went to xandros and see if they have it since it would be easier to install that way.
