AVG6443fu Antivirus

I downloaded the zipped EXE to my desktop and started the auto install program. Half way through the program asked for my registration number. You are supposed to get it via your e-mail. I have tried to get it three times over the past 12 hours and have no response from "grisoft". Any ideas??

Hi Wellington - The email is automatically sent once you enter your details. Are you receiving your other email OK at the address you used? Check that the address you entered is correct. Do you have another email address to use? If so, try another download and see if that helps.

Anne Marie wins a ski lesson!

You were right on the spot. For some reason Hotmail wouldn't let a message from AVG come through. I was able to send mail to my self just fine and AVG got through to my spare account in a couple of minutes. Go Figure??

Everything is in, scanned, detected and one virus and one worm killed.

So when do you want that free ski lesson?

LOL!!! Ski lesson...me, not likely but thanks for the offer Wellington

I'm pleased that you got AVG installed. Its always a good idea to run a second scanner as a double check when a virus is found. Try this free online scanner Housecall

AVG

Hi Anne marie

I tried AVG a few months ago as I had not been using anti virus software and I clearly had a virus which appeared to be sending me e-mails and they were coming from really obscure senders eg
from printer, from my documents, from word? Anyway I installed the software and it found a virus immediately( I KLEZ ) and quarantined it. Happy with this I carried on using AVG for three months but began having problems with freezing and other strange things.I read somewhere I don't know if it was CTH that avg could be the problem. I did the uninstall and all was cured. I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has had this problem.

Michael

I actually did give AVG anti-virus software a try didnt like it much as it was 2 much for my computer and was slowing things down. It was always making my computer slow like it was always doing something.

AVG

Hi There

I was no expert at the time and still not but I think it was using a lot of system resources. Maybe a few tweaks would have solved the problem I had a lot of stuff in the system tray on my old pc and I understand a bit more now about resources It was good while it lasted and very user friendly I may try it again.

Hi mickb - yes I have heard of the odd instance where an install of AVG caused problems for the user, although these reports are few and far between compared to reports of other AV's causing problems. Actually AVG is very light on resources compared to some other commercial AV software but its best to use what works for you

WellingtonP,

If you have your Junk Mail filter set to Exclusive you won't be able to recieve anything from AVG unless you either lower the setting or put them into the safe list in your hotmail options.
