formatting
Hi I'm new and not quite sure to expect. I want to format my C drive, but when I click on the format button, I get the message:'Windows cannot format this drive because it contains files in use by Windows." I still don't understand some of the instructions given by computers.P.S. I have saved everything that I want so I only want to clean the rest up. Thanks for any help. CIAO4NIAO!!! broosypoo: |

Howdy and welcome to CTH:
You can't format a drive containing your OS while you are using it.. You will need a boot floppy from www.bootdisk.com.. Once you have downloaded the appropriate file, double click the download to install the necessary files to a clean formatted floppy disk.. Next, boot into BIOS (setup) and make sure your first boot device is set to the floppy (a drive.. Press F10 to save the change..Put the newly made boot floppy into the a: drive and restart the computer.. Had you looked up at the top of the forums page, you would have seen "Tutorials" heading.. The info you needed was THERE !!! Murray
