Windows XP over Windows Me
I downloaded XP on top of ME on a computer that I found later didn't support the XP. I have ME loaded on a floppy, but am not sure of the steps to go through to load ME back onto the computer. Can anyone help walk me through?

Howdy and welcome to CTH:
Are you sure you have WinME on a floppy or just a WinME boot disk?? Only Win95 came on floppies and you would need a couple hundred floppies to get WinME on it.. You WILL need the WinME cd and if you don't have it, then you are out of luck as far as re-installing is concerned!! Murray

Windows XP over Windows ME
I saved the start up for Win ME on a floppy. Isn't there a way to boot up the computer, insert the floppy and reload?

NO.. all you have is a startup or bootfloppy and all that does is prepare the hdd for the operating system install !!
You MUST use the WinME cd if you want to install ME again !! Murray

The copy of XP is going to deactivate in a few weeks. What will happen then? Another question: On a different computer, if I reformat, does it erase Windows XP? If so, how do I save XP if I don't have the original CD?

If you don't activate XP then you won't even be able to get into Windows period !!! Your system will simply cease to function in the way it was intended..
If you reformat then YES, you will lose XP and without the cd you won't be able to re-install it.. Where is your WinME and WinXP cd or are you using a copy you downloaded from the net?? Murray

I used a copy of XP from my laptop. I have no idea where the other CD's are for the other computers. My guess is they were lost when we moved. Can I make a back up copy of XP from the computer I want to reformat?

No you can't.. also, Microsoft's EULA only allows for XP to be installed on one system at any given time.. as you are trying to use it more than once, you will never be able to activate it as it already has been and any attempt to circumvent that is tantamount to piracy..
Buy another legal copy of XP !! This thread is closed !!! Murray
