Restarting!

Sometimes (depending on what im doing) my computer restarts itself every now and then, really gets on my nerves if im downloading or chatting on the net.

Anyone know what could be the problem?

I thought it could be an error in the boot sector or something. Well an error somewhere on my computer anyway! lol

Let's see what is running in the background, go here and download and run StartupList. Copy and paste the results in a reply.

A few things that could be the problem:
RAM~Bad RAM or poorly connected RAM.
Any card or connection slightly unseated.
Dirty or bad power supply.
Running hot.
Memory leaks.
Any shorted device.
------------------------------------------

I'd check the RAM first.
Clean the pins with an eraser and lightly oil them.
One stick could be going bad.

Sometimes connections, video cards, etc., shift and
need to be reseated.

Clean the dust from the power supply.

(I guess this would be what I'd try first, unless someone
can nail it right off the bat)

I agree with wingless that it's a hardware issue. Heat is a common problem since most people never open their computer and the inside gets covered in dirt. When you clean it, make sure that the computer is grounded so that the components don't experience any static zaps.

Chances are, it's the Msvbvm60.dll file that you need. D/load and run the VBRun60sp5.exe file to install Visual Basic 6.0 SP5 Run-Time Files.

Here's another possibility~
On a list:
"SIGNS YOUR COMPUTER IS HACKED:"
There are 25 signs, and #5 is:
5. If your computer system occasionally re-boots on it’s own, again, the hacker may need to update their Hosts and Servers to make the computer system function properly.
