Hi. I just received a "new" puter. Actually, an old one that was an NT workstation from some defunct business.

My problem... I cannot get past the login screen because naturally, I have no idea of the user name or password. And since this puter is now mine, I want to see what software, etc. is on it before I upgrade to Win XP. But I can NOT get past that old login prompt!! I can't get into the operating system!

What can I do? How do I bypass and then DISABLE the login??

Thanks in advance! :)

Also.... since the puter is now standalone and the network is not connected, typing "guest" also doesn't work. It just says, "cant find tree or server". Please let me know how I can bypass this login screen.

Sounds like this computer has a client to connect to a Novell NetWare server. If so, then at the first login box click on the advanced button. Then click workstation only.

This will bypass the computer looking for a network to connect to. Then all you will have to do is to figure out how to login to the local workstation.

There is a software program from Winternals that will change the administrator password. Or you could search around the hacking sites and see if you can find one for free.......
