Xp Log in to Server 2003
I have 24 xp home machines and a server with Microsoft 2003 server on it. I want to create a log-in script for the work stations to go directly into the server where I can set up policys and individual account access. I've done everything I could on the server assigning IP addresses and I can see the computers on the server. I just need a script on the work station that will log-in directly to the server.

If your server is a domain controller, you should be able to do it automatically.
It will take a little work. You need to set up user accounts for each workstation on the server. On each workstation you need to set it to login to the domain, instead of a workgroup. Right click my computer and click the computer name tab, then click change. Select domain and enter domain info. The first time each tries to login,a prompt should appear. Enter the user name and password and check the box to remember the login. After that, they should login automatically. Last edited by leroys1000; September 25th, 2006 at 08:25 PM. |

Thanks I will try this. To explain my intention better I run a VT program in a Federal Prison. I have several inmates that will log-in to these computers. Each will have certain rights and abilities for that computer. So my intention is that they have an account on the Server and it will directly comminicate and pass down their restrictions and their individual access. Is this posible with what I have ?
Thanks in advance for the help your giving... |

Yes,what I stated above should work, however,do not use the remember me box
unless only 1 user will be accessing each workstation. User permissions are set when you create the user accounts on the server. You will need to set permissions for each account. If more than 1 user is going to use each work station, create the user accounts on both the server and the workstation. That will cause it to require a login instead of automatically logging at the work station. If the workstation is being used as a terminal for the server and anyone at that level has the same access, just have it login automatically to 1 user account. The server should log activity from that area for that user account. So you will know which computer it is but not who is using it. User accounts can be changed or disabled at any time.
