Freespire recovery?
I have been playing with a freespire installation and somehow,
managed to crash it bad. I didn't have anything important on there,so just reinstalled. I would hate to have it happen if there was anything on there. Both grub and the installation got corrupted. Tried to start hard drive from the CD and started to boot and froze. Tried fsck reiser4 and it could not recover the file system. Does anyone know if there is a system recovery? Tried to register for freespire forums, and didn't get activation email. No response so far to my email regarding activation. Thank you, LeRoy |

I can't comment on freespire specifically, but there are utilities (many of which can be used from a linux live-cd) to recover linux-type partitions/lost data.
Out of curiosity, were you using the reiser4 filesystem? It is a great filesystem, but I would not use it on a production system until it has been put through a lot more work. This might have been one of the reasons your system crashed. For your reinstall, you might want to try reiser(3) or ext3 instead, just to see if it helps anything.

Yeah.I just figured out it was reiser3,so I'll try that next time.
Freespire is also a live CD and fsck reiser4 is what was listed in the help. I think what might have crashed it was downloading some floppy utilities that changed the default floppy loader and the system didn't like that. I'll look for more utilities. Thanks. |
