My Windows95 computer has lost it's memory. It refuses to remember the desktop setting for Auto Arrange and it will not remember the sizes and positions of any explorer window. In the folder options I have checked the option to remember window sizes but it dosn't work. Also the Auto Arrange for every explorer window is always off even when the desktop Auto Arrange is turned on. The desktop setting will stay set until a restart or reboot, which is at least once or twice a day. Most other settings will stick after a restart but not all. I really hate that every explorer window and some other programs that open in a normal window, always open as a small 2x2 inch window in the upper left side of the screen. My video is set to 800x600 with 75Hz refresh, but it makes no difference. The folder size, position and auto arrange are always the same, (default) I assume.

Hi,
I run win95b. I sometimes have the same troubles, but it's seldom enough to be a big deal. One way that may work for the window size and location is hold down the Control Key when you close the window.
How long have you been running this installation of windows? I seem to end up doing a fresh install about every 2 years. Things just get too messed up over time that only a fresh install will fix or cure. Maybe it's time for you. *shrug* Never know...no?

Have you tried to re-install windows? If not that may or may not fix whatever seems to have gotten messed up. Like Junky though when I had 95B, seems a format is the best way to go and clean out all the junk.

hi there both of you. i did not disapper. just been busy getting a bad knee diagnosed. have ta go in for surgery.
okay this is what i did.
in the registry, i deleted the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer
"NoSaveSettings" key
However, this did fix the folder size and location problem, but not the Auto Arrange function.
I have to set Auto Arrange on the desktop after any reboot or restart and this never carryies over to opened folders. Before my problemsv started, setting Auto Arrange on the desktop would automatically set it on in any folder opened. Also the icons in my toolbars will not stay in the order that I set them to. I have three extra toolbars in addition to the standard bar. They are on all four sides of the screen and all set to AutoHide. They AutoHide OK but the icons never return to the order I set. This may be related to the Auto Arrange problem.
Can you suggest a registry fix for these?
