Suddenly my modem dials up all by itself. I can disconnect off and come back an hour later and it will be online again.
Does anyone have a solution?

Open internet explorer,click tools/internet options.
Click the connections tab and put a check in the box
that says never dial a connection.
Apply,OK.

If it continues to try to dial up by itself after telling it to never dial a connection, it could possibly be your antivirus program trying to update itself or it could be spyware trying to phone home.

If you think it's not your antivirus software trying to update, the best way to find out if it's spyware (and to get rid of spyware) is to read this post about how to get and use Hijack This.

Once you have a Hijack This log, don't try to fix anything, just start a new thread in the Cyber Safety forum and paste your Hijack This log in for the experts there to analyze and help you get rid of the malware.
