Modem will connect, but won't surf - nor email

Hi

I have Win ME and a SupraExpress 56i V CC modem.

A connection can be made, but no surfing or email is possible.

I have tried different modems, and different connections to no avail

Virus and Adware scanned - no virus, but 500 spyware/tracking cookies - now deleted

Any help appreciated
