IDE Controllers with splats

I am currently working on a Windows '95 system which is showing yellow splats on the Primary and secondary IDE controllers. The owners had installed a scanner to the system and they believe this is when the conflicts started. I have removed the scanner, uninstalled the software, and set defaults in setup, but I do not know how to remove the splats and return the IDE controllers to their original function. I really need a fresh approach because I am getting very frustrated with this issue. Any help or direction you could give would be greatly appreciated. Hello Dere

Highlight the IDE Controllers in Device Manager and select remove. Restart your computer and they will be re-installed automatically
