I have a JVC GR-DVL725u camcorder and I am trying to move pictures from the memory card to my PC. When I install the USB software, it shows up in control panel under System/Device Manager/Universal Serial Bus Controllers as "JVC DV Camera Storage" and as "JVC DV Camera USB Disk", but the Memory Card does not appear as a Drive Unit under My Computer. So I can't move images from the memory card to my PC.

I run Win98SE. (upgraded online). I have Nortons' Systemworks (which I turned off before the installation). I looked at System Information while the camcorder was still connected to my PC and low and behold... there is was: Drive H, complete with a dozen jpg
images. It's there, on my PC but not under My Computer. (Why
drive H? A = floppy, C/D are fixed drives, E is CD-ROM drive, F
is CD Writable, G = Cannon multifunction unit, H = JVC.)

So everything is installed properly; I just can't see the drive
under My Computer, which means I can't transfer images from the
drive to my PC. Someone suggested it might be a BIOS issue. My BIOS: American Megatrends 07/17/00. Any thoughts? Many Thanks.

Hi Paul, welcome to Cyber Tech Help.

You should first see if your motherboard manufacturer has
updates for your motherboard.

These virtual drive creation interfaces can sometimes do what
your describing with older machines. The quickest way around
the problem is to buy a SanDisk card reader (http://www.sandisk.com/consumer/im.asp).
They have a dual reader as well (http://www.sandisk.com/consumer/dualslot.asp).
Sometimes running through the camera itself can cause the
problems your describing. I've got a Pentax 430 still-image that
behaves like that. I bought the SanDisk and everything works
fine.

Other things to try:
try another USB port on the computer
remove any other USB cables connected to the computer
ensure you have all Windows98 updates
update motherboard

Thanks for your reply. I have tried both USB ports on the computer, remove the onlu other USB cable connected to the computer (my Cannon multipass has a Drive G on my PC that also does not show up under my computer, but that I can see in Norton's Systemworks) and have all Windows98 updates.

The motherboard was updated about a year ago, but perhaps to be updated yet again. I'll look at the Scandisk options you mentioned, thanks.
