Job with computers?

Do the people who post help here have a job with computers? Just use a computer? Build or fix them?

I don't have a job, because I live in northwest PA, and there are NO jobs here whatsoever.....let alone computer jobs

I work in the computer business, build 'em & fix 'em, and use 'em, too. Lots of us do.
Move down here to the deep, dark South. Lots of jobs around. Problem is, I don't want to work.

None taken
I wouldn't move back up North at gunpoint. Or any other point.
Of course, no offense

I have $3.77 in my checking account, I have no degree, no experience, and I live with my mom

I'd love to have my own computer repair/custom building bussiness, but I don't see how that would be possible

well, get busy and get to work and start learning. One way is to read these forums and look up the answers in google. You don't have to post but the research will help you learn especially when you start comparing your answer with others. You have a public library where you can check out books that can help you with the a+ certification.

you are only young.. you cant give up yet.. I wont let you..
I know how depressing it is to be out of work.. but you never know what is round the corner
And my sons are still living at home. ....with their mum they don't know how lucky they are and neither do you.. no worries...

Cant you get on a training program. ???
I am from UK and i don't know much about the USA but in UK unemployed people are given college courses for free and financial help IE driving lessons paid for if that means they will get a job in the end..

I'd love to get busy with work.....if I could find any, I know a decent amount abut computers but my big problem is a know a little about everything, I am not a hardware expert, or networking, or security, or XP.....but I know some of all of those, that's not what a company is generaly looking for, they want someone who knows everything about 1 subject, not a little about a bunch of subjects

I have done the test A+ questions online and I get 80% on them, which isn't bad, but I just need to go to school and get a degree.....I want to go to PTI next summer (when my bro graduates) but I won't be able to if I don't find a job and save up money to buy a car and move by then (even though I do have $3,000 in a "college" fund, or at least that's what I've been told, and a grandma that wants to lend me money)

Black_Mirror, there are none of those training programs to my knowledge around here, and not having a job is only 1 of the things I'm depressed about

*WARNING* BELOW IS JUST BE COMPLAINGING ABOUT MY LACK OF JOB, DON'T READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO *WARNING*

I live in a small farming/factory style town of Franklin, PA (16323)......even crap jobs are rare around here, let alone any decent job

I've been really searching for a job ever since Febuary and after a few dozen applications to bussinesses in my area and over 50 or more applications to job postings online (via 3 different sites) I got maybe 7 interviews and 2 hirings, I tried both but I wasn't able to keep the jobs........1 was in a factory, I'm a fat lazy geek, I am not physicially able to do heavy lifting and such for 8 hours in a row, I just can't do it, I tried......the second was a job doing in-home demonstrations of Cutco knives, I sucked as a salesmen and I just didn't have the people to try and sell to to really even get started......oh and over a year ago my parents forced me into a job as a frycook at KCF at $5.15 an hour, I quit that the second day mostly because everyone there was an ******* and didn't do any work (2 cooking stations, 2 sinks, 2 cooks working.....guess how many did anything at all?) so I decided I'm not doing everyone elses job for $5.15 I didn't need the job at the time

So it's not like I didn't try to find work, I just tried and failed at it, as with most things I try

sorry for the story, I'll resist the urge to randomly complain/talk about the rest of my problems and just shut up now

My sons are having exactly the same problems as you and i know how difficult it is to get that first step on the work ladder.
They have tried everything from dish washing to salesmen ( gave it up as he couldn't stand knocking on peoples doors and having them tell him to f*** off.)

Fish and chip shops. local store shelf stacking.. factory work you name it they have tried it.....

At the moment i have 1 out of work...
1 at college.
1 now started in a local factory
1 who luckily has had the same job for 7 years
and 1 waiting to reapply to the police force after failing the final assessment

There must be something you can do.
It doesn't matter what the job is.. it is the self esteem that comes with working that is the main bonus..

Being unemployed is a circle that goes round and round...you need to break that circle... Volunteer for something you enjoy doing.... ask everyone you know if they know of anything you could do to help them....
Cut old ladies grass. do their shopping.. anything
But dint give up !!!!!!

Thats some good advice there from Black Mirror. Try to get anything that will keep you active for the moment. Get some books on computers (if thats what you want to get into) and read them. Then anything you dont understand look on the forums. That way if you decide you dont like a specific area of I.T. you can just sell the book and get another.

I done an engineering degree at uni which is nothing to do with the I.T. work I currently do. I would say I have learnt 50% of my knowledge from this forum and the othe 50% from trying things out at home and reading books.

Once you have a half decent knowledge in the area of I.T you want to get into its just a matter of applying over and over again until you get the break you need.

You sound like a typical teenager.. you want the" moon on a stick" so to speak.. and i dont mean that nastily....
If you want something bad enough you will find a way. You want a job then take anything.
Dont be fussy.. you will meet people who know people
My son wanted to be a builder like his dad.. after 2 years of trying and not getting into construction college he realised that maybe he was going to have to do something else.. and he has,
he makes rusty metal into shiny metal.. his words.. he is only 18 and it seemed to me he thought his life was over already.. before it had a chance to start..
He is like a different person and he has only been at work a week...

Never give up

My mum always told me dont wait for the world to knock on your door.. it wont
