Hey webrave and welcome to Cyber Tech Help,
What sound card do you have ? We'll find the drivers for you.
In device manager do you see any yellow (!) exclamation marks on which hardware ?

I think it's a "Creative Sound Blaster(Whatever comes standerd w/Packard Bell Force2460)". Yes, there is a "!" next to it in the Device Mngr. I checked properties, but, no conflicts are listed, The drivers are installed(it lists 3). I read that I should remove the soundcard and re-install all again. But, I don't know where to get the files to do this. Thanx.

Hey,
Like I mentioned you can find the drivers for your soundcard by clicking on the link I gave you.
http://www.windrivers.com/company/creative/index.htm
This will give you drivers for all versions of soundblaster soundcards.
Take a look in your user manual for your computer for which version soundcard you have.

You can give this a try:
Load windows in Safe Mode, in Device Manager delete anything that has to do with the sound. Then restart and load windows in normally. Hopefully windows will "find" new hardware and either load the correct drivers or ask you for the drivers.
Once things like the sound gets messed up it can be very difficult to get it working right. Ya just have to stay with it.

Hello Dere webrave
Try this:
1). Go into device manager and remove the sound card drivers.
2). Shut down your computer and remove your sound card from its slot.
3). Reboot
4). Shut down your computer
5). Replace the sound card in its slot -(If it is a PCI card and a different empty slot is available use that one).
6).Windows PnP will detect that a new device has been added - (We know better but what the heck let's enjoy puting one over on Windows http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/wink.gif
7). Windows will ask for the necessary drivers :-)>
7a).If you have a driver disk use the drivers on the original installation disk.
7b).If you do not have the drivers or have already tried the manufacturer's drivers that came with the card and they don't wanna play da game - Let Windows try to find an appropriate driver from its own internal database,( you would be suprised at how often the generic Windows drivers work better than the drivers supplied by the device manufacturer)
7c). If 7a. and 7b. don't work search the web for alternative drivers.
7d). Install the drivers for the sound card and restart Windows.
The procedure I have described here applies to virtually any peripheral I can think of because Windows firstEnumerates,(ie. catalouges),all devices -(including those it already has catalogued),at startup(ie immediately after POST has occurred) and Then recognising that something has changed since the its last session, Windows tries to find appropriate drivers etc. to accomodate the new device(s) or pre-existing program(s).
If Windows does not find the expected devices and drivers - It will search all available sources - (Ever found yourself waiting for a digital eternity for Windows to figure out that you have for whatever reason unplugged a mouse)?Windows hates that!)- it will then ask that you provide an appropriate driver.
7e).Reboot
In any event keep us posted.

I did all you mentioned and it's still the same. The sound card is also the modem. Its a Packard Bell Force 2460.
Device Status states: Device is not present, not working properly, or does not have all the drivers installed. See documentation.(Code 24).How do I find that?....
Properties state-
Under Driver files:
"msopl.drv/msblst.drv/msblst.vxd" are listed.
Under Resources: Under Conflicting device list says No conflicts. Am I doing something wrong? Bad drivers? How do I install "new" drivers? I really appreciate any/all help w/this. Thanx.

Your quote:
"The sound card is also the modem."
That's the problem right there. In my opinion, no two devices should be on the same card. If you can't get it working, the only thing left to do is buy a seperate sound card and install that. And after you have tried several times to install windows, and it still doesn't work, the card may have gone bad...or most likely has. They do go out, even new stuff.

I guess I should clairify my response! My problem was the drivers. I deleted my old modem and tried the other version on WIN95(Aztec). I had WIN95 detect new hardware and installed the new drivers fom WIN95 disc. It worked! Thanx all for the great help.
