Removing Linux from Dual Boot
Hi there,
I need some help. I have three hard drives installed on my computer: 1. Windows and MBR 2. Linux (Fedora 4) 3. No OS - just used for storing media (used within Windows) As I don't use Linux I want to remove this and use the HDD within Windows for storing media. I know I can't just remove the HDD as that will cause problems with the MBR. At the moment the second HDD in Windows shows RAW. How do I go about doing this? Thanks |

Format the hard drive with linux on it (use fat32 or ntfs), then boot your windows installation/repair cd and run the repair console, which will take you to a dos prompt. Enter 'FIXBOOT' and then 'FIXMBR' to restore the windows boot loader. This should get rid of any trace of linux.

Ok,
So formatted the HDD with Linux on it. That removed partitions and reverted HDD back to NTFS from RAW. Great I thought. So now I restarted the computer. Clearly it wouldn't start coming up with Grub error as Linux has now disappeared. So I put in the Windows CD but it must have scratched as it's not loading up at all. Spins but doesn't read. Is there any other way to repair boot loader without Windows CD? Thanks. |

You can use a dos Windows 2k or Windows XP boot floppy, it would have the same utility on it you need.
