I need alot of help for starts my computer has windows 98 second eddition on it. I was working great until my husband moved it and it was off for like a day then when I turned it on I have had nothing but problems.

First off I need to change my pixles. so I have many of times went to the control panel and set them from 640x480 (only 16 colors) to 800x 600 and then of course it prompts you to restart your computer and I do that and nothing changes!!!!!!!!!!

The next problem is when i start my computer it starts in the black screen windows startup screen where it says 1. normal 2. 3. ect safe mode .... and I don't know how to stop that either!!!!

Another problem is my cdrw 48x16x48... When i put a disk in it the computer locks up competly. You can't even do a ctrl>alt>del.
And when i go to
< control panel.
<system properties
<secondary ide controller
the cr rom drive is listed and it says ---hardware version not available but that it is working properly
i do not understand !!!!!!!1
Help me asap
thank you

The answers to a few questions might be helpful in diagnosing your problem.

When the computer boots up, Do you see the words 'Safe Mode' in each corner of the display screen?

When the computer was moved, how far did it go? Is it possible that some of the cables or connections inside might have come loose?

The problems you are experiencing can be caused by cables or cards that have come loose and are no longer making proper contact with their electrical connections. These include drive data and power cables, memory SIMMs or DIMMs, and the video card. It could also be caused by a hard drive that has lost data or suffered damage. It could also be completely software related. At the least it sounds like some of your software drivers for your hardware are no longer recognizing the devices (video card and CD drive). I'd check for loose connections first and post back with results.

While you're checking for loose boards or connections inside the computer, you might also find that it's full of dirt that's accumulated since it's been "born". This could also be the cause of some of your problems and should be cleaned using a small vacuum and some "canned" air to blow out the stuff in the fans and crevices. Make sure that the computer is grounded for this operation because fast moving air (vacuum & compressed air) will cause a lot of static.
