Apple new user

Hi all.
Tired of all the problem with windows, virus, spyware etc. I decide to switch to apple and bought one iMac intel.
Now I feel a little confused and wish to ask a couple of question.
1) DO I have to install antivirus, firewall, antispyware on my new mac?
2) If yes, what are the best programs?
3) What kind of problem should I expect surfing the net with my iMac?
4) there are programs for secure surfing of kids (the secure option of Safari are by far too restrictive...) ?

Thanks in advance for your time...

Federico.

might want to check this out.

In general, you should have to worry about having antivirus software, however, you may need a firewall. Fortunately most jerks go after windows so the chances of you getting something is very slight. However, you still need to watch what you do online.

1) No

2) If you REALLY want to there is Virex for the Mac to check for viruses. It's probably the best. There are no spyware apps.. because there is no spyware. If you see some application claiming to check and remove spyware on a Mac, they are lying and relying on the fact that you just don't know Macs are pretty immune to spyware.

3) The only real problems you may find are display problems. Some web sites don't code with Safari in mind. The problems are really rare, but I keep a copy of FireFox handy just in case.

4) I believe Cybernanny and the the like are all available for the Mac as well. You'll need to check out their web sites.
