Internet Explorer can only get online...nothing else.

I setup a new modem for my laptop, and now when I connect to the internet it won't with anything other than internet explorer. I have tried various games and browsers and I have also tried just disabling my firewall, so its not the firewall. Any idea on what the problem is. I will be on throughout the day so a reply will be fast.
