Referring to this thread (my second thread on this subject): http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=133614
The spyware problems were apparently fixed, but the Firefox problems remain. The Hijack Helper asked me to do something involving the registry and the cmd prompt, when I became concerned and asked what this would do first, he did not explain and instead referred me here.
I, however, am confident that the spyware problem has NOT been fixed, but I will yield to the knowledge of the "Hijack Helper". If someone like, maybe Tom (he fixed up my laptop nice, I trust his advice implicitly) could give that thread a once over, I'd be appreciative. Not to disrespect that Hijack Helper, but near the bottom of the first page he said...
I don't have for the while no good idea left.
I'm sure you can understand my concern.

they said they fixed your spyware problem so I would yield to them so your problem is NOT SPYWARE. What is the problem with your firefox? What version of firefox?

What the page stonangel links to describes is how to load a copy of the registry that loaded successfully. What you'll lose are any registry entries made after the copy was made. Generally that means you may have to reinstall any programs that you installed after the date of the registry backup you use.
When you run scanreg/restore, you will be given a list of the backups Windows has. Choose the one that is marked as having loaded successfully that's before the date all the problems started.
Did the problems with Firefox start before or after you installed AIM and McAfee?
Stonangel is from France. I imagine the line that got you all worried is merely a translation problem. I do know for sure that Stonangel's a whole lot better with English than I am with French. ;)

Stoneangel's advice on your HJT log is for sure rock solid, no infection.
I did read the part of uninstalling FireFox and it may have been incomplete.
Here's Mozilla's link on how to completely remove FF. Make sure you are removing the user profile data as well.
You did say you have your bookmarks already backed up?

I backed up my profile (automatically with MozBackup AND manually) and my bookmarks through stoneangel's method, which one should I use when I reinstall?
Did the problems with Firefox start before or after you installed AIM and McAfee?
WAY WAY WAY After, it started when I got the adware removed from Spy Bot Search and Deatroy 1.4.

Yeah, that was the line that got me nervous.
The big one not being the grammar, I go to many multinational forums, but that's the first time a staff member didn't know the answer.

This could also be a problem with an extension or skin. When you completely remove FF with the profile you lose the extensions/skins. I would just export the bookmarks and start over with a clean profile.
Then get whatever extensions and skins you want with the new profile.

That's something I've heard before, in fact that's what my (more-than-slightly incompetent, doesn't even know what RAM (Random Access Memory) stands for) computer teacher said.
But I havent downloaded a new extension in months. However, you are probably right. I'm just giving the full information. And I've never changed the skin.
I'll do it when I go back over to mom's tomorow. (It's mom's computer, not mine)

I havent downloaded a new extension in months.
But FireFox has been upgraded recently and every upgrade I have had with FF has broken an extension or 2 that I had.
I had to start over with a new profile a couple of times since using FF, almost 3 years now, and have always assumed it was a problamatic extension.
Extensions for FF are made by 3rd parties and not the Mozzila team.

Okay, it IS still a security problem, despite what you people think. I did a little research, One Touch Multimedia Keyboard IS IN FACT a phone home spyware developed by Netropa that is preinstalled on HP computers, especially Pavilions with WIN98 like my moms. My Firewall STILL is bothering me about it, and every time it does I block all access and the window comes right back. For now, I have to allow it once everytime it apears.
I'm also properly reinstalling Firefox now.
Unable to complete this step.
# Firefox 1.5 and later: Delete the "Firefox" folder containing the profile "cache" folder and "XUL.mfl" file, located here: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox
That file does not exist. I tried replacing %USERPROFILE% with my moms Windows profile name and the Firefox Profile name. No go.
EDIT2: oops, fixed it. It was C:\WINDOWS\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox
EDIT3: I did it, completly uninstaled and did a clean reinstall of Firefox. It STILL works like utter crap.
My mom has been saving for a Vista Premium Ready Windows XP, she ha senough saved to. Maybe we'll just have to buy it a little bit earlier then expected.
In the meantime, please explain to me how to put my mom's Firefox bookmarks into IE 6.
