Internet lost

My sister in law was trying to get messenger downloaded and it would not work. Someone told her to delete JAVA icon that was in her control panel and not she can not get on the net. No pages will open. She can not try to reinstall, but she can not get to the page.

She went to add/remove but the internet explorer did not offer a repair feature.

She is using Window 2000 and does not have a disk.

Any suggstions? I have XP an every place I tell her to look, she can not find.
