how are you trying to clean your registry and why? what operating system. one word of advise, unless you know exactly what you are doing, you could do some major damage to your registry where a complete reinstall would be required.

Im using windows 2000 pro and everytime i start up my net browser my homw page is this "theuptodatesecurity" page. it states that i need to clean my registry. When I was in school a buddy of mine that is a computer tech installed my windows pro and i dont have the software to reinstall. I wish I did so I dont have to purchase a registry cleaner. If any other advice please let me know.

That's advertising, not a 'system warning'. Reset your home page to something else.

"theuptodatesecurity" sounds like spyware or a trojan, Run a spyware scanner and an antivirus program. You can find those utilities in the download section of this forum. (links at the top of the page). personally I use AVG (anti-virus), spybot, and ad-aware (spyware scanners).

By 'no change', do you mean your homepage keeps resetting itself? A hijacked homepage is where HijackThis got its name. Follow the instructions here (http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86677), and start a new post in the Cyber Safety forum (or I can move this one, if you'd like).
