Not sure if this should go in hardware or not.
Will a full hard drive slow down a computer? I always figured as long as you left enough for virtual memory it would be fine. 37.2 gigs with 2.40 left looking for any reason for slowdown. Thanks.

Have you defragmented it. checked for spyware viruses. cleaned your temp files etc

all these can slow down a pc

Yes, I do these periodically. I'm just curious if a hard drive will be slower based on how full it is.

IMO, you need more space. The slowdown you are experiencing is most likely caused by the lack of space on your drive. you really need around 20 percent of your drive free. I would advise going into add remove and get rid of any program you do not use, then run ccleaner (http://ccleaner.com) and get rid of all temporary files on your computer. Finally it may be time for another drive.

I plan to go through my files and delete stuff that I don't need anymore. What's the science behind a hd with more space running faster though? I don't know how a hd works so I don't understand how something like this effects speed.

Well all i can think of as an example is a sock drawer.. half full its quite easy to find your favourite pair.. but fill it up with socks and it becomes more difficult and takes longer:D the same applies with files

Not very scientific but as best an example i can think of at the moment.. I am sure that other members will give you the full technical rundown
