Due to a few crashes over the years I now have 3 operating systems that appear for selection when I boot the computer.

Of course only one of these works the others are corrupt and unrepariable.

How do I get rid of them?

(Window 2000 Pro)

Thanks

You can remove the extra 2 entries in the boot.ini file but this does not
free up the drive space.
Best to save anything you want off the drive and reinstall.
During the installation,it will come to a page were you choose
which partition to install to.
At that page, follow the instructions to delete all the partitions
on that drive, then select the unpartitioned space to install to.
That way,you remove all the old installations and end up with
one new one.

In simple terms, you could just delete the windows 9x folder and swapfile and you're pretty much there - then you could either edit the system properties and set the wait-for time on the OS to be zero or remove the line from your boot.ini for your windows 2k.

Having the two versions of windows on the same partition is messy as they will both use the Program Files folder structure so you might have orphaned files and folders left behind.

Cleanest method would be to reinstall your chosen OS and formatting the partition....but then you've got to back up your data and reinstall all of your programs

Thanks for the info on the Boot.ini file, I'll try that.

It seems as though Windows has just created new WINNT(n) folders in the C:\ directory. I renamed one of the old ones with no detrimental effects, and thought I could just delete the other ones!?

Does this sound reasonable?

IMO, you need to get rid of all partitions and reformat the drive. Then install the operating system you want to keep.
