Can I use Disk Utility to backup the contents of my iPod to an external drive, just as I would with any other drive, And then be able to copy it back to the iPod and preserve all song data and everything?

I just worry about my iPod, knowing of it's relatively short life (i've had 2 fail on me already) and having no other copy of my music anywhere. It's ALL on the iPod. I haven't been able to find a program that works right that will back it up, and then I remembered of Disk Utility.

Can it be done? I'd try it first, but I don't want to risk anything.

I don't know if Disk Utility will work. You can certainly try.

There are other ways too:

I was searching for a free solution, hence asking about Disk Utility, but now that I think back on it, $20 or $30 is a small price to pay for the peace of mind it would give me knowing all my music is safe.. I'll check those out, thanks Buzz.
