computer halted

Hi can anybody helpme to unlock my computer ? I running a gateway panteum 3 with windows ME and I turn on the computer at soon it shows windows sudenly go to a black screen showing 3 choices
safemode
normal
and another configuration. then when I press safemode, it goes to a blue screen saing that the computer is halted.you need to restart the computer And I try this step many many many time and it not geting any where. I turn of the computer, but it will do the same. and will not open.
what can I do?
Can anybody help me?

Is there any error code that appears on your screen along with the message that comes up telling you that your computer is halted? Does the same message come up if you choose the normal option? Also, you will get more responces for your topic if you post it in the appropriate thread.
